Metro Officials Unveil New Bus Shelter

Metro officials have unveiled the first of the 50 new bus shelters scheduled for installation over the next five months.  The shelter is located at 22nd and Cuming Street.

“We look forward to improving accessibility, comfort, and convenience for our riders” says Curt Simon, Metro’s Executive Director. “This project will enhance connections all around Omaha.”

The shelter features solar-powered lighting, bench seating, and display panels for passenger information. The back wall, made of perforated aluminum, is durable and ensures visibility through the shelter.  Where space is available, bike racks will be installed to increase capacity for the growing number of riders that bike to bus stops.

While the majority of the existing shelters will be replaced, some will not due to changes in passenger volume or street design.  However, for the first time, about a dozen other stops will receive shelters.

New shelter locations include Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Salvation Army Kroc Center, Open Door Mission, Aksarben Village and Seventy Five North neighborhood.
