Bus Driver Cited In Fort Street Crash

The driver of a bus that went down an embankment and through a fence Wednesday afternoon has been cited in the 108th and Fort Street crash.

The Student Transportation of America driver, 58 year old Erin Heming, was cited for Failure to Yield. Fourteen children from Adams Elementary, ages five to eight, were taken to hospitals as a precaution. All the children were released from the hospital after being examined and determined to not be injured. Heming was also taken to the hospital to be examined.

Police say Heming told officers she was attempting to turn left onto Fort Street from 108th Street and did not see anyone coming. She said as she turned, a truck hit her, causing her to spin around and hit another vehicle. The bus then went down the embankment and through an OPPD transformer fence

The driver of the truck said he was southbound on 108th Street, going through the green light when the bus pulled out in front of him.

An OPPD spokesperson says that the crash missed all of the sensitive equipment in the area.
