NP Dodge Park Closing Due To Rising River Levels

The Missouri River continues to rise after recent heavy rains and the City of Omaha has decided to close NP Dodge Park at 8:00 Monday night.

"The current projections have taken the river up over 28 feet and it's actually moving up pretty rapidly right now," says Parks Director Brook Bench.

Facility user groups, campground reservations, and contracted park users have been notified of the closing.  He says it's uncertain how long the park will be closed.  "Hopefully it's not a long event, nothing like 2011," Bench says.   "Usually it goes up and then in a couple of days it goes back down.  That's what we're hoping for."

Bench says it's mainly a safety precaution as they try and prevent people from driving down into the lower lots in the dark.
