A Columbus woman has died after her vehicle was hit by a train near North Bend.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says 54 year old Debra Kessler was northbound on County Road 4, south of Highway 30, around 9:00 Wednesday night when her minivan was hit by the train.
The investigation showed that Kessler's 202 Dodge Caravan was driven onto the tracks and struck by an eastbound Union Pacific train. That crossing is controlled by a crossbuck. Kessler was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.
Firefighters removed Kessler from the van, and she was flown by a medical helicopter to a Fremont hospital, where she later died.
