Suspect In Gretna Shooting Dies At Hospital

Sarpy County authorities say a suspect in a Thursday morning shooting in Gretna has died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Around 8:00 a.m. a shooting was reported in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 119 E. Westplains Road.  Investigators say 50 year old Michael Bartenhagen was shot while inside his vehicle.  He drove himself to the Gretna Fire Station at 204th and Highway 370 and was then taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.   He is expected to be released from the hopsital on Thursday.

The sheriff's department says the suspect, 52 year old Scott Rieflin, was eventually found at his apartment near 201st and Glenmore Drive.  When deputies made contact it was discovered that Rieflin had suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound.  He was transported to Midlands Hospital in Papillion where he died.

Investigators say the two men knew each other and that Rieflin was upset about a relationship between a woman and Bartenhagen.
