Omaha Man Behind Bars In Council Bluffs For Kidnapping

An Omaha man is behind bars after reportedly holding multiple people hostage in a Council Bluffs apartment.

Just after 3:30 Monday morning, Council Bluffs police officers were called to an apartment building near 8th Street and 2nd Avenue for a report of an armed subject holding people against their will. Police were able to establish that before the call, 36 year old Derrick Jones, of Omaha, had been inside an apartment, with several tenants of the building, when a disturbance started.

An allegedly armed Jones, refused to allow anyone to leave the apartment for about two hours. During those two hours, it was reported that Jones assaulted several people by hitting them with a handgun and a metal wrench.  Two people were treated at a Council Bluffs hospital for injuries they received during the incident. Those two people have been released and all others either refused or did not need medical attention.

Jones was arrested and booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail on charges of six counts of Kidnapping, three counts of Aggravated Assault, Going Armed with Intent, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Domestic Abuse and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine).
