Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is recommending a new annexation package for 2018. Twelve SID'S as well as the Miracle Hill Golf Course are included in the package.
Omaha's population would increase by approximately 8,771 people and property valuations would increase by over $1 billion. Property taxes in the 12 SIDs are expected to decrease once annexed. The average reduction is estimated at about $500 per $100,000 evaluation.
Omaha would collect an additional $58 million in property taxes, $15 million in sales tax and $7 million in street and highway funds over the next 10 years according to the mayor's office.
All of the proposed SIDs are already provided protection by the Omaha Fire Department, except for Lake Cunningham Ridge.
Residents and business owners in the area will receive more information in the mail next week. There will be an open house at Saddlebrook Community Center on June 27 to go over the package. The Omaha Planning Board will consider the annexation package on July 11. City Council will receive it on July 24.
