Columbus Police Officer Flown To Omaha After Shooting

A Columbus Police Officer was life flighted to an Omaha hospital after a shooting Thursday evening. Columbus Police were serving a warrant at around 7:45 p.m. when the officer was confronted by an armed suspect with a rifle. 

The Nebraska State Patrol says gunfire was exchanged, and the officer was shot twice.  The suspect was also shot.  Authorities say the officer’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The suspect was taken into in surgery.

Police and first responders surrounded a home at 3410 16th Street and the Patrol says a SWAT team was assembling because there was another person believed to be inside the home. 

Both the officer’s name and the suspect's name are not being released at this time.
