Pedestrian Killed In Hit And Run Crash

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car near Creighton University early Wednesday morning.

The woman was hit just after 1:00 near 25th Avenue and Burt Street. Officers on scene say the driver who hit the woman fled the scene after the accident.

The woman, believed to be in her 20's, was taken to the hospital with CPR in progress, but she died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Witnesses told officers they believe a dark colored Sedan hit her near the bottom of the bridge and then dragged her.

The woman was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident, and police are unsure if she was attempting to cross the street.

Burt Street was blocked off from 25th Ave to 30th Street as police investigated, but it reopened by 4:30.

The woman's identity has not yet been released.

Anyone with information as to what may have happened or information on the runaway driver is encouraged to contact OPD's traffic division at (402) 444-5627.
