Man Sentenced On Cold Case Rapes

A man already behind bars for rape is getting another couple hundred years on his sentence.

On Monday, 42 year old Brandon Weathers was sentenced for four cold case rape cases dating back to the early 2000's. For fifteen years Weathers got away with rape and torture after breaking into women's homes, with his victims living in fear that he would return.

Weathers was found guilty of four counts of first-degree sexual assault and for each count, he received a sentence of 40-50 years. He will serve this secondary sentence consecutively to a previous case in which he was sentenced 100 to 160 years for raping a thirteen year old child.

One of Weathers victims, Nicky Patten, has waited fifteen years for this day. "I feel awesome. I feel great. I don't feel sad at all. I don't feel like I need to cry. I feel empowered. I feel really good."

Patten doesn't forget the night Weathers broke into her home wearing a mask and attacked her. He did the same thing to three other women. "He's a lumpy piece of crap and I feel like he is going to get what's coming to him in jail."

Weathers was linked to the crimes while he was already serving time in prison. A court order gave officials authority to use force to obtain Weathers' DNA sample, which he'd refused to provide despite a Nebraska law requiring it of all prisoners.

Guards held him down and took a sample from the inside of his cheek. Despite evidence proving his guilt, during his sentencing at the Douglas County Courthouse, Weathers told the court he was conspired against. "Brenda Beadle and Erin Hurley committed a crime by turning over false evidence to hide the truth."

Deputy County Attorney Brenda Beadle let the evidence speak for itself, calling his crime "pure savagery". "The defendant's arrogance, selfishness, and stupidity is what did him in. He left his own DNA behind at each and every scene."
