Omaha Murder Suspect Killed In Motorcycle Crash

An Omaha murder investigation took a bizarre turn Sunday afternoon when police say the suspect in the case was killed in a motorcycle crash.

Just before 11:00 fire and rescue personnel responded to a motorcycle accident on I-80, approximately two miles west of the Mahoney State Park exit. The rider, 47-year-old Denberth Chavarria, died in the crash.

Omaha Police say Chavarria was a suspect in a Saturday morning homicide near 49th and Q.   The call was received just before 11:00 a.m. to check on the occupants of a home. Upon arrival police found 33-year-old Joselyn Serrano-Albayero dead inside.

Police say the injuries found on her body were consistent with homicide. Her two children, ages two and nine, were also found in the home. The children were not injured and were placed in protective custody.

Chavarria had a warrant issued for his arrest Sunday morning just prior to the crash.  Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the homicide of Serrano-Albayero.

The investigation is ongoing.
