State Troopers Begin Patrols In Recreation Areas

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol will be conducting special enforcement operations focused on recreational areas in several counties beginning June 1. This operation will be conducted with partnership from Nebraska Game and Parks.

The enforcement effort will place an emphasis on preventing crashes related to drunk driving. Law enforcement officers have historically encountered a high rate of alcohol-related incidents at lakes and recreation areas. This enforcement will include high-visibility patrols and vehicle checks.

“In the past, this operation has been focused on Lancaster County,” says Captain Lance Rogers.  “This year, we’ll be including recreation areas in Cass, Gage, Saline, Saunders, and Seward counties as well. Troopers will make themselves highly visible in those areas to help create a safe environment for all to enjoy.”

The increased enforcement will run through August 16, focusing primarily on weekends, thanks in part to a grant for $5,500 from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
