Trucker Sentenced For Deadly Interstate Crash

A semi driver involved in a deadly crash last August has been sentenced to 90 days in jail.   Robert Richmond was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.

Richmond was driving his Peterbilt semi westbound on Interstate 80 when he failed to notice traffic had slowed just before 10:00 a.m.

Richmond's truck hit the rear of a 2013 Toyota Prius.  The front of the truck then collided with the rear-end of a Chrysler Sebring, forcing it into the rear-end of a "roll off" trailer being pulled by a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck.

Both occupants of the Sebring were pinned underneath the Peterbilt semi-truck.  19 year old Joan R. Ocampo-Yambing was a passenger in the Prius and died at the scene.  She and her friends were on their way to watch the solar eclipse.
