A trip to the lake turned tragic Monday afternoon in Council Bluffs. Dive teams recovered the body of a 15 year old boy from Lake Manawa, who drowned while swimming with siblings.
A search effort lasted for more than two hours before the boy's body was located. Crews were called to the scene at Lake Manawa State Park just after 1 p.m. Monday.
Dive teams focused their efforts on the south side of the lake and eventually found the teen's body inside the roped area for swimmers to use. The area where he was found is about 5 feet deep.
Council Bluffs assistant fire chief Derek Williams said that the boy was on an inflatable tube when he fell off and did not come back up.
