The nation will pause on Monday to remember and honor those who have died while protecting and serving our country. The public is invited to a number of ceremonies throughout the metro area on Memorial Day.
St. Vincent de Paul will host a service starting at 9 a.m. That is located at 143rd and Eagle Run Drive.
The ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery located at 79th and Mormon Bridge Road will start at 10 a.m. There will also be 10 a.m. services at Calvary Cemetery at 77th and West Center Road, Resurrection Cemetery at 78th and West Center and St. Mary Cemetery at 35th and Q. Gretna American Legion Post 216 and Freedom Park at 24th and Freedom Park Road will also hold 10 a.m. events.
The service at Memorial Park at 60th and Underwood Avenue will start at 11 a.m.
One of the more interesting and historic services starts at 11 a.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery at 32nd and Parker. Those attending are asked to bring their own seating.
Bellevue's Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Bellevue Cemetery at 13th Avenue and Franklin Street starting at 11 a.m.
At 11:15 the service will start at Omaha National Cemetery at 142nd and Schram Road. Overflow parking is available at the Millard Social Hall and shuttles will provide transportation to and from the event.
Governor Pete Ricketts and U.S. Senator Deb Fischer are the guest speakers at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home on South 40th Street at 2 p.m.
