Pet Owners Should Keep Their Furry Friends Indoors This Weekend

With record-setting temperatures expected this weekend, pet owners are being encouraged to keep pets home this weekend.

Mark Langan with the Nebraska Humane Society says common sense can go a long way to keeping your pets safe in the heat. "Leave your dogs at home in the air conditioning. Don't drive them around. Don't leave them in parking lots."

Langan says if they get a call for a dog in the car, they could potentially have to forcibly remove the animal to save their life. "We get hundreds of calls every single summer in regards to dogs left in cars. Some of them end up not so well. We've found some dogs deceased or near death."

If you own an outdoor pet, Langan says to be sure they have constant access to shade, water and shelter.
