Former Creighton University Presisdent Morrison Dies

Creighton’s 22nd president, Rev. Michael G. Morrison died Thursday at the age of 81.  Father Morrison served from 1981 to 2000.   School officials said nearly 45 percent of the diplomas awarded by Creighton were signed by Father Morrison at the time of his retirement.

He continued to teach at Creighton over the years until 2010. Most recently, he was living at St. Camillus retirement community in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Father Morrison entered the Society of Jesus in 1955 and was ordained in 1968. He earned degrees of licentiates in philosophy and sacred theology from Saint Louis University and a PhD in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught, mostly history, at Creighton Prep, Creighton University, Saint Louis University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Marquette University. He began his administrative career at Marquette and came to Creighton in 1977 as an academic vice president.
