Omaha Gives Fundraising Blitz Underway

It is that time again. Time to dig deep for donations for Omaha Gives' 24 hour donation blitz.

Omaha Gives, a year-round giving platform, is hosting a 24 hour online charity donation drive for local charities.

The Omaha Community Foundation organizes the event, and President Sara Boyd says it's a great way to get involved in charitable donating. "You don't have to have a lot of money, you don't have to look very far to find access as to how you can participate and it's fun. You can feel like you're a part of something larger than yourself."

Boyd says the goal of the 24 hour event is to inspire the community to come together to give as much as possible to charities in the metro. "What we find is that Omaha Gives has grown to be the seventh largest giving day in the nation. Last year almost 19,000 people gave nearly $9 million in a 24 hour period."

The minimum donation for Omaha Gives is $10, with no maximum donation limit. Prizes and challenge funds help make every donation dollar go further.

With over 950 charities involved, Boyd says there is a wide variety of worth non-profits worth donating to. "There's anything from the really large non-profit organizations like a Heartland Family Service to smaller, grassroots organizations like Omaha Girls Rock." Last year, donors came together to raise $7.8 million for local non-profits.

Donations can be made from 12:00 AM Wednesday, May 23rd through 12:00 AM Thursday, May 24th through the Omaha Gives website.
