Northwest High School Singers Set To Take New York City

For many musicians it's a wild dream...to perform on stage at one of America's most prestigious venues, Carnegie Hall. For one group of Omaha students though, it is reality.

On Wednesday, a group of eighteen Northwest High School students will travel to NYC to perform on that legendary stage. The students will perform alongside the Nebraska Wesleyan University chorus and a combined chorus of singers from Los Angeles and San Diego.

Northwest choir director Georg Getty says this is an amazing opportunity for students who may not have another chance to have an experience like this. "For our students in particular, some of whom have never been able to leave the Omaha area, this is just a whole new world."

Getty says the performance has been years in the making, and the students are over the moon to be able to have this opportunity. "It's a world-class opportunity and we absolutely had to take it and our kids are just incredibly excited. This has just been the talk of the year and they just get more and more excited the closer we get to this."

The chance to go to New York and perform at Carnegie is thanks to an invite from Nebraska Wesleyan professor Dr. William Wyman. Getty says the performance is an honor beyond their wildest dreams. "This is by far above and beyond I think any of us, teacher or students, have been able to do. So, it's incredibly incredibly exciting, incredibly gratifying. So we're just playing it cool."
