No one was injured after an SUV ended up in Zorinski Lake around 1:00 Tuesday morning. The driver told police he thought the parking gear was on.
Moments later he watched helplessly as the vehicle rolled into the water. When daylight arrived an Omaha Fire Department dive team was called in. "Just to make sure there was nothing suspicious under the water," says Battalion Chief John Kohlbek. "Two guys went into the water, did a quick check inside with metal detectors and found nothing."
A tow truck pulled it out of the water before a flatbed tow truck hauled it away. Kohlbek says the submerged vehicle provided them a good training opportunity. "We train to look for suspicious things in the water, if there's bodies in the water, cars in the water. We train like this all the time."
