Teen Tries To Steal Cat From Lincoln Porch

Lincoln Police are thanking the public for their help in identifying a would-be cat burglar.

Around 8:30 Wednesday night, a 26 year old man reported that an unknown female tried to steal his tiger striped tabby cat, Mo, from his front porch near Martin and N 52nd Street. The victim reported that his home video surveillance showed a green vehicle stop in front of his home. An unknown female then approached his porch.

The female picked Mo up and tried to leave with him. She opened the car door and the fleet-footed feline made his heroic escape as he leaped to the ground. Mo was unharmed and ran back to the porch.

Just after 5:00 Thursday evening, a citizen reported that she saw the video on the news and believed the female was her neighbor. Officers contacted a seventeen year old female and her mother regarding the attempted theft.

The teen told officers she was dared by a friend to steal the cat but did not intend to keep it. She was then referred to the County Attorney for Attempted Larceny and Trespassing. Officers discussed the incident with the teen's mother and she advised she also felt it was important for her daughter to apologize to the owner.
