Motorcycle Speed Enforcement Effort Underway In Metro

Nebraska State Patrol troopers have started a special enforcement operation focused on motorcycle and exhibitionist speeding in the Omaha metro area, specifically Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

Nebraska’s motorcycle fatality rate hit a 20-year high in 2017 with 26 deaths. Nearly 40% of those occurred in Omaha.

“Our troopers have noticed a recent increase in reckless driving by young motorcyclists,” said Major Brenda Konfrst, NSP Commander of Eastern Field Services. “This type of driving is extremely dangerous to both the rider and other motorists on the road.”

The operation runs through July 15, with troopers and dispatchers working overtime in the effort to make metro roads safer. Troopers on the ground will also have assistance from the the State Patrol helicopter to apprehend drivers who flee an attempted traffic stop.
