Pottawattamie County authorities say a fourth dog has been found dead at a breeding and training business near Hancock, Iowa
In addition to the dead animals, 40 malnourished dogs and puppies were found at the kennel. The dogs were discovered Sunday at Young Gunz Kennel, about two miles southeast of Hancock. The kennel website says it specializes in breeding and training Labrador retrievers.
Matt Wyant with the county says the inside of the building was covered in feces and had no food or water for the dogs, while another building was in a similar state.
Officials say 10 dogs are currently missing from the facility and 20 dogs have been returned back to their owners. The sheriff’s department is working with the humane society to make sure dogs are getting necessary treatment.
No charges have been filed against the business owner, 35-year-old Dustin Young. The investigation is ongoing and a decision on criminal charges will be made after all the details are sorted out.
