It was an incredibly close call for three people involved in a crash in Elkhorn Wednesday night as they were able to escape their cars before a train plowed into the vehicles.
Authorities say the two vehicles collided head-on at railroad tracks near 192nd and Blondo around 8:30 Wednesday night. The two drivers and at least one passenger reportedly struggled to get out of their vehicles as they watched the train barrel towards them.
Witnesses told 6 News the train hit at least one of the crashed vehicles that had gotten stuck on the tracks. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation.
Construction on 168th Street has forced drivers to find alternate routes, leading to heavier traffic at the intersection of 192nd and Blondo.
