Bank Robbery Suspects Leave Empty Handed

Omaha Police are on the hunt for two would-be bank robbers.  Around 9:30 Wednesday morning the gunmen walked into the Bank of the West near 96th and L wearing masks and dark clothing.

"They came in, took over the bank and attempted to get into the vault," says Sergeant Steve Fornoff.  "At which time we had some people that were in the drive-thru who noticed what was going on and called 911."

Fornoff says the armed men saw the customers on the phone and split without any cash.  "It scared the bad guys so they ran out of the bank and they got into a white and silver Ford pickup, which was later found abandoned at a nearby apartment complex.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402 444-STOP.
