Tornado Watch Issued For Metro Area

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch until 10:00 Tuesday evening for portions of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, including the entire Omaha metro area.

According to WOWT 6 Meteorologist Rusty Lord development of storms is exepcted after 3pm in areas west of the metro.  The storms will then spread east and northeast into the evening and last through the overnight. 

Omaha can expect storms to arrive around 5-6pm at the earliest. The tornado threat exists primarily with the early storms then it will transition into a hail and straight line wind threat after sunset. Heavy rain is possible from some of these storms, especially overnight Tuesday night.

Lingering storms will exit early Wednesday morning leaving partly cloudy skies. Another round of storms, some of which could become severe, is possible along and south of I-80 yet again Wednesday evening.
