Fire Tears Through Land At NP Dodge Park

A number of fire crews are still on scene Tuesday morning for a wildfire burning at NP Dodge Park in Northeast Omaha.

The fire started Monday afternoon and crews from the Omaha Fire Department, Ponca Hills and Fort Calhoun were all called in to help. Firefighters have been staging at a cabin while rotating crews in and out.

The blaze has ripped through brush just to the north of the park and south of the Surf Side restaurant. No structures have been damaged by the fire. The fire is being fueled by trees that were killed off in the 2011 river flooding.

Omaha crews have left, but Ponca Hills and Fort Calhoun firefighters remain on the scene.
