Blowing Dirt Causes More Problems On I-80

Strong winds caused big problems on I-80 again on Monday.

State officials had to shut down parts of I-80 between Utica and Seward for a few hours after eleven vehicles, including semis, were involved in crashes. The crashes were reported just before 2:00 PM and lanes were reopened at about 4:30 PM.

The wind mixed wit dust being kicked up from farmland are considered factors in the crashes. Injuries were reported, but authorities none of them appeared to be life-threatening.

Dust and winds were also factors in a 29 car crash on I-80 on Sunday that injured dozens and killed 81 year old Franklin Owens of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
