The search for a stolen iPad from South Dakota led to the arrest of a 29-year-old Omaha man and the discovery of a house full of stolen items and prescription drugs.
Douglas County authorities were asked to assist in the South Dakota theft case after a tracking signal led them to the house near 190th and U Street.
When they arrived, the deputies inspected electronics in the home with permission from people inside, but did not find the iPad.
While still there, Christopher Rouse pulled up to the house. Deputies checked the registration on the vehicle and confirmed it was stolen out of Lincoln. They searched the vehicle and found a stereo system, $1,600 cash and seven oxycodone pills.
Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the home in an attempt to find the stolen iPad. The search did not turn up the iPad, however the victim's checkbook and identification were found.
The search ultimately revealed several empty wallets and purses as well as drug paraphernalia throughout the home. The sheriff's department says this is a clear indication the occupant was selling narcotics and providing a haven for local thieves to sell or trade scores for drugs.
Rouse was arrested and booked on receiving stolen items and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.
