Iowa Man Killed After Exchange With Law Enforcement

An Iowa man is dead following a Sunday afternoon shootout with law enforcement.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the man was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with an Iowa State Trooper in Moorland, Iowa just west of Fort Dodge. 

The incident took place when a trooper was responding to the 2300 block of Carter Avenue in rural Moorland and saw a man and a woman fighting. The man then pointed a gun at the trooper, before they exchanged gunfire. The suspect was shot and killed, the trooper was not hurt in the exchange. 

Authorities say the man had also fired several roundss into his own vehicle before the trooper arrived.

The identity of the man has not yet been released, pending family notification. The incident remains under investigation.
