Crook Caught After Stealing Ring Worth Over Half A Million Dollars

Two people are behind bars after the theft of a ring worth over half a million dollars.

Omaha Police say just after 3:00 on Saturday afternoon, officers responded to the report of a theft from a car parked at Creighton Prep High School. The victim said the theft took place sometime between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. She stated she left her purse, which contained her wallet, credit cards, checkbook and wedding ring, in the locked car. The victim told officers that the ring had a value of $629,000.

It appeared the suspect broke a passenger window in order to steal the purse. A witness told officers a black male, about 40 years old, was seen walking in the parking lot checking vehicle door handles around the time of the theft. The witness said the male was seen in a small silver car with a Nebraska license plate of URL 751, which was tracked to a silver 2005 Chevy Malibu.

Later that day, detectives were able to locate the registered owner of the vehicle,  51 year old Monique Pierce, and her associate, 60 year old Ralph Dorsey. Several interviews were conducted and the wedding ring was eventually located along with other items from the theft.

Dorsey was arrested and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking Items-$5,000 or more. Pierce is facing a charge of Theft by Receiving Stolen Items-$5,000 or more.

Police are reminding the public that they should not leave their purse, wallet or other valuables unattended in their vehicles, whether they are locked or not. Suspects are able to quickly break a window and steal items. If you see a person looking in vehicle windows, checking doors or otherwise acting suspicious, contact 911 as soon as possible.
