Metro area law enforcement agencies will give citizens a chance to get rid of unused prescription drugs on Saturday.
The goal is to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescriptions. Authorities say drugs that sit in home medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.
The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous and no questions are asked. The medications that are collected will be incinerated.
Several metro locations will be accepting the medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
