Two Suspects Arrested, Trooper Injured After Pursuit

Two people are in custody and an Iowa State Patrol trooper was seriously injured after a pursuit that began in Bellevue and ended in southwest Iowa.

Bellevue Police Sergeant Matt Bryl tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB officers were investigating a reported shooting around 4:00 a.m. near Paradise Lakes off of Harlan Lewis Road. Bryl says a man in a vehicle drove by and fired shots at officers before taking off.

None of the officers were hit.   The vehicle went over the Bellevue Toll Bridge and into Iowa.  Authorities in Fremont County say the man also fired shots at deputies.  The Iowa State Patrol joined the pursuit as it headed into Hamburg, Iowa.

Authorities say during the chase a trooper crashed his cruiser and was seriously injured.  He was airlifted to an Omaha hospital, but is expected to survive.  The man driving the getaway car eventually crashed into the Nishnabotna River and he and another person were taken into custody.
