An 82 year old man accused of sexually assaulting an eleven year old girl made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Bail was set at $20,000 for Eugene Schneekloth, who has been charged with Third Degree Sexual Assault of a Child and Child Abuse. The judge also ordered that Schneekloth not have any contact with children. Prosecutors asked for a lower bail as Schneekloth is a low flight risk and has no criminal record.
Investigators say the young girl was assaulted while helping out at Schneekloth's wife's daycare in 2011 and 2012. "She is to be credited for coming forward now, long after the assault and through this investigation we were able to make the arrest," says Deputy Chief Chris Whitted.
The investigation is ongoing and information on the Janet Schneekloth Day Care has been referred to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and Child Protective Services for investigation. The daycare is currently closed.
