Washington County officials are gearing up for what is expected to be another heated debate over proposed chicken farms in the area.
The farms would supply the new Costco processing plant in Fremont with birds. Farmers argue that the farms would boost the economy and be able to provide them with a steady income. Neighbors and opponents say the farms pose health risks to the community and could impact residential growth.
Each of the proposed farms would house up to 380,000 chickens. More than 30 new industrial chicken barns are currently being built or are in the planning stages.
Tuesday's meeting starts at 5:00 PM inside the gym at Arbor Park Intermediate School in Blair.
