Deaf Couple Shot At During Road Rage Incident

A metro couple is thankful to be okay after being shot at during a road rage incident.

The couple say on Wednesday night they were passed by a car that was going 100 MPH or more on southbound Highway 75. Sarpy County Sheriff's Detective Karen Wrigley tells 6 News, “The other vehicle tried to cut them off on the highway and was braking to try and cause an accident.”

Detective Wrigley says the victims, a husband and wife, are deaf but after catching up to the speeder the husband was able to communicate his concern using his hands. “To tell them to slow down and the other vehicle rolled down their window and the passenger put the gun out of the window and fired off three shots at them.”

One bullet missed, another flattened a tire, with the third bullet hitting the driver's side fender. That third shot cut wiring before hitting the engine. The victims described the road rage car as 2008 to 2012 dark colored Chevy Malibu.

Detective Wrigley knows sign language and has been working with the couple. She says they were obviously shaken. “They were scared when it first happened. Obviously, they had a lot of adrenaline going but happy their kids weren’t in the car with them when it happened.”

The victims described the two road rage suspects as being in their twenties. The road rage incident happened about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 75 going south from Chandler. If you are a witness or know the identity of the suspects call Sarpy County Crime Stoppers at 402-592-STOP.
