Omaha police say a 21-year-old woman shot in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter near 99th and Military Wednesday afternoon has died.
Omaha Police say Kayviaun Nelson died from her injuries at the hospital. Officers found Nelson in a crashed silver SUV just before 5:00 p.m. Police said after being shot Nelson collided with an unoccupied pickup in the parking lot.
Police are investigating whether the suspected shooter may have followed Nelson to the Walmart. "This may have come from a different part of town and come to a head here at this location," OPD Lt Amy Otter says.
Detectives are reviewing store surveillance video. Police said they have not yet made an arrest. Police placed Walmart on lockdown and worked to clear all shoppers from the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
