Interstate 80 is back open after a day that saw the rescue of more than 100 stranded motorists but the snow is making for slick travel through the metro.
Authorities have handled scores of traffic accidents as blizzard conditions scraped across the heartland. tate officials report that roads shut down by the spring storm are gradually reopening but travel is far from ideal. The Nebraska State Patrol continues to urge caution if you’re on the roads.
The Patrol says 61-year-old Rollo Ward, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was killed when his semitrailer lost control on snow-covered Interstate 80 near Chappell in western Nebraska and struck a semi that was stranded in the blizzard. He died at the scene.
In the metro area there could be 1-3 inch snow totals by the time it wraps up later Sunday morning, Travel could still be difficult with snow blowing snow around on slick streets.
