Offutt Gate Reopens After Security Threat Investigation

An Offutt Air Force Base gate that was shut down around 9:30 Thursday morning to check for a potential security threat has reopened.

The STRATCOM gate, located on Capehart Road, reopened around 11:15 a.m.   It was closed after a military working dog detected a possible threat during a routine vehicle inspection.  Increased security measures were put in place.

Emergency response agencies from Offutt Air Force Base and the Douglas County explosive ordinance disposal unit responded and confirmed there was no threat to the installation.

"We take the safety of our service members, civilians and their families who support them very seriously", base officials said in a statement.  "Our security forces took appropriate action and adhered to established security protocols to ensure the safety and security of the base."

The statement also said "As a matter of practice, we do not discuss specific security incidents nor will we discuss what may have triggered the military working dog’s response."
