Husker QB Patrick O'Brien Leaving Program

Nebraska sophomore quarterback Patrick O’Brien is leaving the Husker program according to KFAB's Sean Callahan.   He confirms that O'Brien will transfer to another school to resume his football career.

Callahan says O'Brien was not at practice on Thursday and that Frost had granted his release on Wednesday.  "Almost everybody had a good idea at least one of Nebraska's quarterbacks would probably leave the program after spring practice," Callahan says.

The 6-foot-4, 230 pound O'Brien saw action in four games last season but appeared to be the odd man out in Frost's new offensive system. "When you make a change from a true pro-style, and that's what Nebraska was under Mike Riley, into what Scott frost does, it just wasn't going to work with all of the quarterbacks."

O'Brien found himself this spring in a tight battle with redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia, sophomore Andrew Bunch, freshman Adrian Martinez and UCF transfer Noah Vedral.

In a post on Twitter on Thursday O'Brien said he was blessed to have spent the past two and a half years at Nebraska.  O'Brien says he will always be a supporter of Nebraska football.
