Two Lincoln Police Officers Are Recovering

One man is in custody after allegedly assaulting two Lincoln Police officers on Monday.  

Lincoln Police say 43 year old Mitchell Wachter was brought in for questioning in a copper pipe theft case on April 5th. A neighbor confronted Wachter during the burglary and he displayed a handgun and threatened to shoot the victim. The victim was able to take photos of Wachter and his vehicle.

Wachter was brought to the police station and placed in an interview room and a short time later, he then walked out of the interview room in an attempt to escape and was confronted by an officer. Wachter punched the officer in the face multiple times and when another investigator went to assist, they all went to the ground. Wachter continued to fight and a taser was eventually deployed and officers were able to handcuff Watcher. 

As Wachter was walked outside, he again began to struggle and lunged towards one of the officers. Wachter and both officers were transported to the hospital. Wachter was transported to the hospital, to be medically cleared after a taser deployment. He suffered minor injuries during the struggle and was medically cleared. 

The officer who was punched suffered cuts to his face and mouth, swelling and abrasions to his cheek, jaw, face, and neck, and his uniform was torn. The investigator assisted the officer suffered a knee and wrist injury. The officers were treated at a hospital and released.

Wachter was arrested for two counts of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest due to the events at the police station. He is also facing charges of Burglary, Terroristic Threats, Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon, and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony in connection to the copper theft. The investigation is ongoing and officers are working to identify any other burglaries Wachter and accomplices may have been involved in.
