Omaha Child Care Facility Forced To Close

Germany Debates Home Day Care Subsidy

An emergency order has been issued Tuesday night that has forced the closing of a child care provider's business.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Joquana Goynes, who operates Klassy Kidz Korner at 50th and Leavenworth, can no longer provide care to any children other than her own.  Goynes was arrested in March on drug and gun charges and failed to notify the state about the charges.

DHHS officials say on March 7th the 41 year old Goynes was arrested and charged with manufacturing, distributing or possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of marijuana of more than one pound and failure to affix a tax stamp.

According to Douglas County court records, the sheriff's office found more than two pounds of marijuana at Goynes' residence and a loaded 9 mm handgun under her bed.  State officials say she failed to report the charges to the department, which is required.

Goynes can request a hearing within 15 days of receiving the emergency order.
