Bus Driver Won't Face Charges In Boy's Death

The Douglas County Attorney's Office says the driver in Monday's deadly school bus crash will not face criminal charges.

Police said 8-year-old Haji Mohamed was struck by his school bus when he tried to run across Sprague Street between 22nd and 23rd late Monday afternoon. Student Transportation of America School driver Ashleigh Avant had just dropped off Mohamed and 16 other students at the designated stop.

As Avant continued her route westbound on Sprague Street, Mohamed darted into the roadway. Police said he was struck by the bus as soon as he stepped into the street.

STA is conducting their own internal investigation as part of after action and follow up to the accident.  Mohamed was laid to rest Tuesday.
