An elementary student was rushed to the hospital with extremely critical injuries after being struck by a bus Monday afternoon

It happened at 22nd and Sprague just before 5 p.m. Police Sergeant Chuck Casey says a Student Transportation of America School bus struck seven year old child moments after he exited the bus.

"The family is at the hospital at this point. We're going to be here for some time trying to figure out exactly what happened," Casey says. "We're going to be talking to witnesses. We're going to be looking at roadway evidence. We're going to be examining the vehicle involved trying find out exactly what lead up to this."

The bus was the only vehicle involved. Police said no other children were injured.  They were put on another bus and taken to their destination.

Kani Wright was traveling behind the bus and saw the aftermath of the tragic accident.  "I saw the boy under the bus, on the ground. He had just been run over by the bus."  Wright says moments after the crash the boy's grief stricken gathered around their son before fire and rescue personnel arrived.

"Everybody was just shocked about what happened," Wright says.  I have two daughters and I would hate for something like this to happen."
