Teen Who Made Viral Half-Court Meets Globetrotters

Friday was a night James Meiergerd will never forget.  Meiergerd has Down Syndrome and became a viral hit after making a half-court shot behind his back at his school.

The 18-year-old is a Harlem Globetrotters fan and the team took notice. James and 180 of his family and friends were invited to the Globetrotters game Friday night at the CenturyLink Center.

His mom, Karen Meiergerd, told 6 News attending the game meant so much to James. "It is like a dream come true for him. You would never think this would happen as he is growing up and that he would do something like this.”

While James and the nearly 200 people around him enjoyed the game, they also wore a shirt with a simple message.

"’Winner with Down Syndrome.’ Just trying to make everyone aware to never say no to a child or anyone because you can always do it." Karen says.
