Morton Middle School Teacher Arrested For Sexual Assault

An Omaha Public Schools teacher is behind bars for allegedly having sexual contact with a student. 

Omaha Police say on Thursday, their Special Victims Unit became aware of an allegation regarding sexual contact between a student and teacher at Morton Middle school. 

During their investigation, detectives learned that the teacher, 25 year old Amy Nowaczyk, had been placed on administrative leave after school officials were told that she had allegedly sent an inappropriate picture to the student. Nowaczyk and the student also allegedly engaged in a sexual act. 

Detectives arrested Nowaczyk and booked her into Douglas County Corrections on charges of Electronic Enticement Under 16 Years of Age and First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

Here is the letter that was sent to parents by Principal Sherri Wehr:

We want you to know that we were recently made aware of a report of alleged inappropriate contact between a teacher here at Morton Magnet Middle School and a student who attends Morton. The Omaha Police Department has arrested the teacher and is conducting a full investigation. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation and we are actively cooperating with our partners in local law enforcement.

While we cannot comment on personnel or student issues specifically, we wanted to share with you that we are taking these allegations very seriously.  It is our practice to report any allegation of inappropriate contact with a student, regardless of whether it involves staff, fellow students, parents or community members. We report information to local law enforcement and to Child Protective Services.  We also believe it is critically important to continue to work with the student and their family to do all we can to ensure their well-being.  The safety and security of our students is our top priority.
