Lockout At Minne Lusa School After Gun Spotted

Minne Lusa Elementary School at 27th and Ida was placed into lockout just before 3:45 this afternoon after there was a report of a man with a gun.

Lt. Jake Ritonya says one parent had called the school saying he was heading there to pick up children.  The other parent then called and said there was a protection order being served and the children are not allowed to go with him.

Lt. Ritonya says, "It was then a witness coming up to the school saw our suspect retrieve that firearm, chamber a round, it makes a distinct sound, they obviously recognized it.  They recognized that this guy was going into the school and immediately called the police.  That upped obviously our response."

Lt Ritonya says he was taken into custody in the office and was not armed at the time. However it was credible information because a firearm was recovered.

A "help and officer" call was sent but canceled immediately afterwards.

Parents were informed by the school that all students and staff were safe.  Children were allowed to leave the school shortly before 4:30.
