The Kansas City Royals were set to play their Triple A affilate Monday evening at Werner Park. However, Mother Nature didn't cooperate and due to the rain the game has been canceled.
Exhibition games like this are rare. Omaha Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro says that is due to player-management agreements. He says, "Exhibition games, post opening day, went by the wayside 15, 16, 17 years ago." He says discussions of an exhibition game between the two teams started about nine years ago. This would have been the first game between the two teams in 18 years.
The K.C. Royals arrived in Omaha last night and originally planned to leave to prepare for their season opener on Thursday. This was to help kick off the Storm Chasers 50th season as the Royals Triple A team. Their season opener is April 5th.
