The Nebraska State Patrol made sure no one else could get their hands on some dangerous explosives.
Last week NSP Explosives Technicians disposed of multiple dangerous explosive devices found in Nebraska. On Wednesday, a grenade was found in McCook and the NSP Bomb Squad was dispatched. Investigators determined the grenade was live and had been modified. The grenade was transported to the McCook Police Department range and safely destroyed with counter charges.
On Thursday, more explosives were destroyed after nine old railroad torpedoes were found in Crete. The torpedoes were designed to attach to the rail and use explosive material to create a loud sound to signal to the engineer that a hazard is ahead. For the second time last week, the NSP Bomb Squad was able to successfully and safely destroy the explosives.
These two incidents serve as a reminder for the public that they should contact their local law enforcement agency if they come across any potentially dangerous explosive items.
