Lincoln Corrugated Cardboard Ban Set To Go Into Effect

Starting next week, residents in Lincoln will need to make sure any corrugated cardboard is in their recycling bin, and not the regular trash.

After Sunday, April 1st, all corrugated cardboard will be banned from being dumped at landfills. Corrugated cardboard refers to a kind of material that is actually composed of three different sheets of container board, which are basically like thick paperboard. The two sheets on the outside are flat liners and the sheet in the middle has a rippled shape.

The 'Take It To The Bin' campaign aims to keep thousands of tons of the recyclable material out of landfills. The city has already seen a significant rise this year in the amount of corrugated cardboard being recycled ahead of the campaign's official kickoff.

Garbage collectors caught taking corrugated cardboard to landfills could face a $100 fine. Residents who fail to recycle corrugated cardboard run the risk of having their garbage not picked up or having their trash company fine them.
